The Client

Global manufacturing company with USD 27 billion annual turnover. 

The Problem

Suffering tax raids in an autocracy; unable to expand its business in a strong growth market; several problems with permitting, licensing;  day-to-day business suffering and prospects uncertain. Our investigation revealed a ten-year old legacy conflict between a ministry and the local business. Both sides were so entrenched a third party was needed to assess and fix the problem.

The Outcome

Relationships were built with individuals in the ministry and above. Audiences were granted with senior officials in the autocracy, and a path forward was found. A number of confidence building events undertaken, including joint press conferences, and eventually national TV appearances, to explain good intentions.

Improved situation gave our client the ability and confidence to make an investment of USD 500 million to double its manufacturing capacity in the country. Relations remain cordial and supportive.
